The first Sherlock Holmes book, A Study in Scarlet, was published in 1887, over a hundred years ago. Over the years, there has been countless of adaptations and retellings. Due to how many adaptations there are, I'm just going to talk about my favourites :)
next sherlock adaptations to watch:
I've read a few classics in my life, some of them I have loved, some I have hated, so going into reading Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock canon, I admittedly was a bit weary. However, I was honestly surprised how endearing Holmes and Watson are in the original texts. Most of these stories were published over a century ago and yet here I am still giggling and kicking my feet to whatever shenanigans this fictional dectective and his Boswell are up to. I think one of my favourite things about Sherlock canon which I was surprised to find was how silly and domestic the stories are.

Sherlock Holmes (1984) was a british television adaptation of ACD's work that ran for a decade. Many fans, including myself, view this series to be the most canon accurate interpretation of the originial stories. Jeremy Brett truly out does himself with his perfomance of Sherlock Holmes. Whereas many interpretations of Holmes consists of a cold, logical machine of a man, Brett managed to portray him as the eccentric, kind, and fun detective that is so endearing to us. Additionally, David Burke, and in later seasons, Edward Hardwicke, both compliment Brett in their loveable perfomances as John Watson.

Hear me out Sherlock Holmes but if he was an asshole and they are all doctors. Surprising a quite a lot of people that I have talked to about House MD didn't know it was a Sherlock adaptation. So if anyone is reading this and didn't know, here are some similarities:
There are a few other prominent similarities between the two, however I haven't listed them because of spoilers
Another fun fact is that Arthur Conan Doyle actually studied to be a doctor and was a ship surgeon before working in a private practice. Whilst waiting for patients when he was working at the practice, he wrote short stories.

A companion to the original ACD canon, Molly Knox Ostertag's illustrations and comics are so beautiful and truely embody the essence of Holmes and Watson. Furthermore, shoutout to Ostertag, who did what few could, and made Watson and Holmes canonly queer in her comics, and even included Mary into the fun with her and Watson having a lavender marriage. Whilst the ACD canon by itself is endearing to me, reading Watson's Sketchbook alongside it has definetly secured my love for these stories into a special place in my heart!
Also, he recently released a physical copy of Watson's Sketchbook and I managed to order one!! I'm very excited for it to arrive!
